Symphony New Brunswick Makes a Trio of Appointments
October 3, 2016
New Brunswick—Symphony New Brunswick Board Chair Reid Parker is delighted to announce two new appointments to the Board of Directors, while General Manager Jennifer Grant is pleased to announce a new staff appointment. These individuals will be lending their expertise and enthusiasm to heighten the profile of New Brunswick’s provincial, professional symphony orchestra.
Joining the Board of Directors are Charlotte County lawyer Peter Hyslop, LLB, and Saint John consultant Cathy Rignanesi, CA, CPA.
Cathy began her financial career at Ernst and Young after graduation from the University of New Brunswick (Saint John) with a BBA and joined Bell Aliant in 1987, where she held many positions, including that of Vice President Taxation from 2005-2014. Cathy says of her new appointment, “I am both proud and honoured to be on the Board of Directors for Symphony New Brunswick and to serve as its Treasurer. I look forward to contributing to and helping to sustain the financial and creative health of the organization.”
Peter Hyslop also holds a BBA from the University of New Brunswick, where he went on to study law. He has practised law in Carleton County, NB for many years, specializing in small town law and corporate/commercial and business law transactions and was appointed to act as Intervener in the Public Interest by NB Attorney General from 2003-07. Peter adds, “The orchestra should be a source of pride to all New Brunswickers. I hope that all music lovers take advantage of any opportunity to hear the orchestra during its exciting upcoming season.”
Board Chair Reid Parker says of these appointments, “I am delighted both Cathy and Peter have accepted positions on the SNB Board. Cathy is an experienced financial manager who will add great depth to our planning and financial management functions. Peter’s knowledge of music will be applied immediately in assisting with artistic planning; also his location in Woodstock strengthens our ties in the communities north of Fredericton, which SNB regards as a very important secondary market.”
Experienced communicator and arts supporter Sheila Blagrave has joined the organization as a part-time Manager of Marketing and Community Relations. General Manager Jennifer Grant says of this addition to the staff, “I am happy that Sheila has joined us to help reach new markets and strengthen existing ones. As part of her mandate, she will be helping us to grow our audience base, working with the media to tell the stories of Symphony New Brunswick, and will oversee marketing and sales. She comes with a great deal of experience in both the private and public sector, most recently as Director of Communications and Marketing for both Mount Allison University and Brescia University College, an affiliate of Western University in London, Ontario.” Blagrave says of her new role, “I have recently returned to New Brunswick after seven years in Ontario and I am thrilled to be returning home and to be able to make a contribution to the arts in this province. The first concert of the 2016-17 season will be a thrilling performance by pianist Janina Fialkowska with the full Symphony, conducted by the legendary Bernhard Gueller. This is part of a 65th birthday and Cross-Canada tour for Janina — a return from Germany to her native Canada. We are offering special discounts for groups of 10 or more to this very special concert as well as to individuals who are under the age of 35.”
