Dramatic Contrasts

Saint John String Quartet with guests Patrick Bolduc, Bassoon and Andrew Miller, Bass

April 4, 2019 McCain Hall, STU, Fredericton 19H30
April 6, 2019 Resurgo Place, Moncton 19H30
April 7, 2019 Saint John Arts centre 14H00
April 12, 2019 St Francis Xavier, Sussex 19H30

This exciting concert mixes some of the well-known favorite String Quartets with a bit of wind flair. Andrew Miller joins the quartet to make a string quintet, which then adds a bassoon as a soloist. This is a chance for anyone not quite sure about the bassoon to hear it played by a Master. Jean Françaix is a composer of some of the most delightful music for chamber groups. He is recognized as giving all of the musicians challenging but supremely rewarding parts to play, in which melody along with virtuosity combine for some memorable performance and listening experiences. Along with virtuosity, Patrick Bolduc, Symphony New Brunswick principal bassoon, brings his personal joie de vivre to the piece. This very special Virtuoso Concert should not be missed.
