From November 19 through 22, New Brunswick audiences will have the chance to hear Ventus Machina, the outstanding New Brunswick based woodwind quintet, presenting the third concert of SNB’s 2015-16 Virtuoso Series line-up. This ‘back to the classics’ offering should entertain and inform audiences of all ages. Listeners will be treated to a musical tour through some of the greatest and most well-loved works of the quintet repertoire. It includes a sparkling early quintet by classical composer Anton Reicha, then moves through some of the gems of the repertoire, including Malcolm Arnold’s witty Shanties, the Jaques Ibert’s virtuosic Trois Piéces Bréves, a melodic Serenade by Ferenc Farkas and the Paul Hindemith quintet, well-loved by performers. We will be taking the tradition through to the present day with a new version of Martin Kutnowski’s Tonadas y Mateadas, composed for Ventus Machina in 2015. Roughly translated as “Tunes Sung while Drinking Yerba Mate” (a tea enjoyed by friends while visiting), the piece recaptures the rhythms and moods of different dances from contrasting regions of Argentina – mountains and prairies, warm and cold regions, solitary country sides and big cities.
New this season: Symphony New Brunswick and Ventus Machina are thrilled to be performing in our new Moncton home, RESURGO Place at 20 Mountain Rd, Moncton.
